Commencing July 1, 2016 Chris Mackin will be named the Ray Carey Fellow for the Study of Democratic Capitalism at the Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations.

Mackin Keynote Speaker at Scotland Conference

On Friday, November 15, 2013, Christopher Mackin was the keynote speaker at a Strengthening Democracy conference held at the Scottish parliament building in Edinburgh. The conference was organized by the Scottish Insight Institute, an association of Scottish universities. The November 15 session was organized around the specific theme Employee Ownership and Voice and the Right to Buy. Mackin Re-Appointed as Carey Fellow, Rutgers University for 2013-2014

In April, 2013, Christopher Mackin was re-appointed for a fourth consecutive year as a Carey Fellow for the Study of Democratic Capitalism at Rutgers University. The Carey fellowship is based at the Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations. It will extend from July of 2013 through June of 2014.

Beginning in January for the Spring semester, 2013, Chris Mackin will teach a course entitled Democrtic Capitalism at the Rutgers School of Management and Labor Relations. NE Chapter Meeting - October, 2012

The New England Chapter of the ESOP Association hosts its annual meeting on October 10-12, 2012 in Killington, Vermont. Chris Mackin will moderate a session on Friday, October 12 from 2:30-3:30 PM with the bold title, Best Idea Ever featuring the innovative incentive practices of Walman Optical Company of Minneapolis as presented by Walman employee-owner Missy McManigle. Also joining Chris at this year's New England Conference will be Carole Leslie, formerly of the Employee Ownership Association of the United Kingdom, who now consults on employee ownership throughout the UK.

Mackin Hosts UK Ownership Commission

On April 20, 2011, Christopher Mackin hosted five members of the UK Ownership Commission for discussions about corporate ownership policies in the United Kingdom and the United States. The Commission is chaired by prominent columnist for the Observer and other UK publications, Will Hutton, and is affiliated with the Oxford Centre for Mutual and Employee-owned Business, at Kellogg College Oxford University headed by Professor Jonathan Michie. Christopher Mackin named to MaineToday Media, Inc. Board of Directors

On August 11, 2009 the membership of the Portland, Maine Newspaper Guild unanimously elected Christopher Mackin to serve as one of the two Newspaper Guild-CWA representatives on the Board of Directors of MaineToday Media, a newly created corporation that purchased the Portland Press Herald, the Waterville Sentinel and the Kennebec Journal from the Blethen Companies of Seattle, WA in June of 2009. Mackin served as a key strategic advisor to the Newspaper Guild in the sale process which resulted in a 15% equity stake for employees of the newly created corporation. OA conducts ESOP training at Rex-Cut Products, Fall River, MA

In February, 2009, OA helped to introduce the workforce of specialty manufacturer, Rex-Cut Products of Fall River to the facts and figures behind their Employee Stock Ownership Plan or ESOP. In December, 2008, Rex-Cut converted to 100% employee ownership.

Christopher Mackin celebrates 15 years at the Harvard Trade Union Program

In January, 2009, OA President Christopher Mackin began his 15th year of teaching at the Harvard Trade Union Program, a six week mid-career training program for union leaders held on the Harvard campus. Since 1994, Chris has lead a course within the Trade Union Program called Capital Strategies for Labor, an overview of trends relating to pension funds and the strategic use of employee ownership by labor.

OA manages Massachusetts State Center for Employee Ownership

In October, 2007, Ownership Associates renewed its contract with the Commonwealth Corporation of Boston, MA, to manage the Massachusetts Office for Employee Involvement and Ownership (MASSEIO). MASSEIO is one of three state-sponsored technical assistance programs across the United States (Ohio and Vermont are the others) that promote employee ownership. Due to the fiscal crisis confronting state government, the Commonwealth Corporation suspended the operation of the Massachusetts Office for Employee Involvement and Ownership (MASSEIO) effective October 1, 2008 until further notice.
